Bastrop, a great alternative to Austin living

Bastrop is a great living alternative to Austin.

Austin's population, housing market and apartment construction are continuing to grow exponentially.  In March, the US Census bureau ranked Austin ninth of the fastest growing large cities between July 1, 2015 and July 1, 2016. Driving around the city one cannot help but notice the newly built apartment complexes and subdivisions drastically changing the city landscape. This, most certainly, leads to home and rental prices rising.  The average home listing price in Austin is $430,000, $197 per square foot in contrast the average home listing price in Bastrop is $245,000, $133 per square foot.  The average rental in Austin is $1,847 compared to Bastrop at $1,411. These figures, of course, change depending on the area of the city.

Bastrop is also continuing to grow and expand with new businesses and housing development construction littering the landscape. The median listing home price is currently $288,000, up about 1.4% from January of 2015. With the changing geography of both cities, Bastrop is a great alternative to living in Austin.  The lower cost of living and short commute offers families the opportunity to experience small town atmosphere with access to the all Austin has to offer without the downsides of big city living.
